Mac Miller’s catalog always had the bones of a live band project — hip-hop built on real instrumentation, arrangements that breathed the way a room breathes, a sensibility that moved from Pittsburgh to jazz and back without ever announcing the pivot. Come Back to Earth, the five-piece group billing themselves as the world’s first and only Mac Miller tribute band, arrives at Photo City Music Hall on Dec. 19 on the Balloonerism Tour, eight years on from his death in 2018 and deep into a national run that has already worked through Brooklyn Bowl, Buffalo Iron Works, Baltimore Soundstage, and stops in Denver and State College, PA.
About the Show
The Rochester stop gives the band another room in which to work through Mac Miller’s full discography, from K.I.D.S. through Balloonerism, with a live band and MC. The five-piece lineup: Marco Cirigliano on drums and serving as musical director, Ryan Bauer on guitar and vocals, Ben Chilbert on bass, Jesse Clayton on synth, and Noah Fense as emcee. The group describes these shows as “a heartfelt celebration built on love, community, and the lasting impact of Mac Miller,” with an emphasis on authenticity and meticulous arrangement work rather than a simple recreation of the studio recordings.
NYSMusic covered the band’s January 2026 appearance at Buffalo Iron Works and found serious performance to report. Cirigliano’s drum work drew “celebrity style” comparisons; Clayton’s synthesizer arrangements earned specific praise for their intricacy, reportedly assembled in three days; and Fense drew notice for crowd engagement and control. The band’s approach to Miller’s bass-heavy material was called out as foundational to the set’s overall weight. Their stated commitment to “thoughtful arrangements” places the project in the musicianship category rather than the tribute-circuit sentiment column. The Pittsburgh rapper’s catalog (Swimming, Circles, and the album that names this tour) translates particularly well to the live band format, where his production choices reveal the ensemble thinking that was always underneath.
