Dropout Kings are on the road behind an album that cost more than it cost to make. Yokai, their third record on Napalm Records, was completed by co-founding vocalist Adam Ramey just weeks before his death in May 2025. He was 31. The album came out in August. The band is still touring.

That weight shows up in the reviews. numetalagenda.com wrote that Yokai “thrives on intensity and rarely relents.” legendswillneverdie.com called it “a triumph and a tragedy, but above all, it’s a legacy.” soundlinkmagazine.com said the band is “at their most focused and emotionally charged.” This is not hype for a new record cycle. This is a band playing for someone who is not there anymore.

Eddie Wellz, Rob Sebastian, and Trevor Norgren hit Montage Music Hall on Sunday, May 3. Rochester sits one day before their Toronto stop — they will be locked in. Montage is a 400-cap general admission room in East End downtown Rochester, built for exactly this: loud, close, no distance between the band and the room.
