Sean Perry saw Metallica play the Black Album tour in 1991 and spent the next decade-plus building something that could match what he heard that night — not as a tribute act in the casual sense, but as a note-for-note reproduction at the speed, the volume, and the precision of the record. The Four Horsemen play Seneca Allegany Event Center in Salamanca on Friday, February 12, at 8:00 p.m.
About the Show
The band’s mission is explicit: “album-quality” Metallica, which in their case means the first four studio albums — Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice For All, plus select anthems from the Black Album. The set doesn’t stop at the obvious cuts. “Dyers Eve,” “Trapped Under Ice,” and “The Shortest Straw” are part of their standard repertoire, tracks that younger fans may never see Metallica themselves perform.
Perry plays guitarist and frontman, and the band’s presentation matches the era: Marshall amp stacks, white Gibson Explorer guitars, extended hair, and a stage show built around raw power rather than production. No gimmicks. The pitch, as they’ve put it, is “sheer energy, chest-pounding, crowd-pleasing power,” and audiences who’ve seen them describe the experience as feeling like “1986 all over again.”
They log roughly 100 shows a year and have shared stages with Theory of a Deadman, Nickelback, Bush, and Vanilla Ice. Global management comes from Brian Wheat, co-founder and bassist of platinum rock band Tesla — Wheat saw them live at Penn’s Peak, was struck by the crowd’s reaction to the musicianship, and immediately signed on. He’s been steering them toward higher-profile stages since. The Salamanca date comes near the end of a fall-winter tour running through Virginia, Ohio, Massachusetts, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Iowa.
