Vyntyge Skynyrd answers the question that trails every tribute act (does anyone who actually knew the original band think this is worth watching?) with an endorsement roster most acts of this kind could only dream of. Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle, former manager Paul Abraham, current Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Johnny Van Zant, and Gene Odom — who served as the band’s security chief and survived the 1977 plane crash — have all weighed in publicly. Odom called Vyntyge Skynyrd “one of the best tributes I’ve ever seen.”
About the Show
Vyntyge Skynyrd’s focus is the Ronnie Van Zant era, 1973 through 1977: the span of records that put Southern rock on the national map before tragedy ended it. The group describes their approach as replicating the original music “as it was originally recorded and performed,” with a stated aim of transporting audiences “back to 1977.” Their set draws from 29 songs across the catalog, including “Freebird,” “Simple Man,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Saturday Night Special,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “Gimme Back My Bullets,” “Tuesday’s Gone,” and “That Smell.” Van Zant’s endorsement reads less like a promotional blurb and more like a passing of the torch: “I want to thank you guys for carrying on the name of Lynyrd Skynyrd.” Whether that framing is touching or uncomfortable depends on how protective you are of the original. Either way, the catalog holds. Nobody goes to see a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute because the songs have gotten old.
The demand is genuine. A May 2027 date at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre in Arundel, Maine, is already sold out. This Daryl’s House date is part of an active touring schedule running through multiple New England states and into New York.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. The event is all ages.
Venue & Logistics
Daryl’s House on Route 22 in Pawling is one of the more distinctive rooms in the Hudson Valley. Daryl Hall built the club as a physical extension of his long-running web series “Live From Daryl’s House,” in which he brought musicians to his home in upstate New York for informal sessions over food. That ethos, intimate and musician-first, built on the premise that a good room makes a performance matter more, makes it an unusually fitting host for a tribute act whose entire project is one of preservation.
