Kansas’s “Carry On Wayward Son” remains one of the five most-played tracks on classic rock radio, and “Dust in the Wind” has cleared three million airings — a catalog, in other words, that does not require much contextualizing. What does require some acknowledgment heading into their Saturday, November 21 stop at The Vine Showroom at del Lago Resort & Casino is the state of the band’s current lineup, and the pointed self-awareness of a tour called the “50th Anniversary Tour – Another Fork in The Road.”
About the Show
The fork is real. Founding drummer Phil Ehart suffered a major heart attack and has stepped away from touring; Eric Holmquist, who served as Ehart’s drum technician for over 20 years, took over the kit in March 2024. Founding guitarist Rich Williams, in the band since 1973, has scaled back his appearances as macular degeneration has made touring increasingly difficult. He hand-picked Scott Bernard (officially the full-time replacement since August 2025) to carry on in his place. “Scott Bernard is a fantastic guitar player, a great guy, and is my hand-picked choice to help carry on the legacy of the band Kansas,” Williams said. Vocalist Ronnie Platt has come through a recent battle with cancer. The touring lineup for this date includes Platt (vocals/keyboards), Bernard (guitar), Tom Brislin (keyboards/vocals), Zak Rizvi (guitar), Joe Deninzon (violin/guitar), Holmquist (drums), and Dan McGowan (bass/vocals). Kansas has absorbed transitions before: in a career spanning more than 50 years, they have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, earned eight gold albums and three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, and Best of KANSAS), and appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks across the ’70s and ’80s. Most recent studio recordings are The Prelude Implicit (2016) and The Absence of Presence (2020).
Venue & Logistics
The Vine Showroom holds 1,400 — a notably intimate room for a band that played sold-out arenas and stadiums across North America, Europe, and Japan. Voted Gold in Best Night Club in the Finger Lakes, the room is described by the venue as “acoustically superior to any other entertainment site in the area.” Del Lago sits right off I-90 at Exit 41 in Waterloo. This is a 21-and-over show; del Lago’s policy applies to all Vine Showroom events. Show time is 8 p.m.
