Here is where I land on Buffalo RiverWorks: a 3,000-capacity outdoor multi-use venue is exactly the right size for Mastodon in 2026. Big enough to make the room feel like an event, contained enough that you are never far from the action. The Poisonous Weapons Tour rolls into Buffalo on Tuesday, September 29 — doors at 6 PM, show at 7 PM — and this triple bill is worth planning your whole evening around.
About Mastodon
Formed in Atlanta in 2000, Mastodon has spent two decades earning the kind of reputation that makes a Rolling Stone declaration — “the greatest metal band of their generation — no one else comes close” — land as fact, not hype. Leviathan was named Album of the Year by Revolver, Kerrang!, and Terrorizer in 2004. The Hunter, Once More ‘Round the Sun, and Emperor of Sand each cracked the top ten of the Billboard 200. They are not a niche band.
This tour carries real weight. Guitarist Brent Hinds — a founding member — died in a motorcycle accident, and the band’s new single “Your Ghost Again,” released June 2 on Loma Vista Recordings, is the first music they have put out since. Drummer Brann Dailor put it plainly: “Your mind plays tricks on you, especially so soon after someone dies and you’re in the places where they always were.” Bassist Troy Sanders called his lyrics “gratitude towards Brent.” Current lineup: Sanders (bass/vocals), Dailor (drums/vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar), Nick Johnston (guitar), and João Nogueira (keyboards).
Supporting the tour: Deafheaven and Alcest, two of the most compelling acts in the post-black metal space. Get there at doors.
The Venue
Buffalo RiverWorks (359 Ganson St, Buffalo, NY 14203) is a 3,000-capacity outdoor multi-use venue that handles a show at this scale well. It is one of the standout rooms in the Buffalo / Western NY region for anything in this range. Doors open at 6:00 PM, show starts at 7:00 PM. This is a 16+ event — bring valid ID.
