If you have never made the drive out to Daryl’s House in Pawling, this is the excuse you have been waiting for. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall opened this intimate club in 2014 — a restaurant and performance space that grew directly out of his acclaimed web series Live from Daryl’s House — and it remains one of the most genuinely interesting rooms in the Hudson Valley. On Sunday, October 25, Connecticut cover band Rum Runners takes the stage at 7:00 PM.
About Rum Runners
Rum Runners are not your average cover act. The eight-piece ensemble has been working the East Coast for over 25 years, and they bring a full production to every show: saxophonists delivering dynamic solos, a Hammond B3 keyboard player adding soulful depth, and four-part vocal harmonies that give the band a sound most cover acts can only approximate. Their set pulls from dance, rock, and pop — the kind of music that gets a 200-person room moving — and they mix in original material alongside the covers. They are currently recording a new album, Let it Ride, at Blackbird Studios in Nashville and Atlantic Records in New York City.
About the Venue
Daryl’s House rewards showing up early. Doors open at 5:00 PM, and the venue’s award-winning American menu — steaks, seafood, pasta, and sandwiches with Philly roots — makes a genuine case for dinner before the show. The indoor room holds 200, which means there is not a bad sight line in the place, and the sound system does full justice to a band this size. Three performance stages and that particular feeling of being a guest in someone’s home rather than a seat-filler in a hall. It’s on Route 22 in Pawling, right in the heart of the Hudson Valley — an easy drive from anywhere in the region, and worth planning around.
