Rochester, here is a reason to clear your Wednesday night: The Unlikely Candidates are opening their East Coast run at Montage Music Hall on May 27 — and they are not playing a theater. They are playing a club show. Which is exactly how you want to see a band like this.
Fort Worth’s The Unlikely Candidates have been road-testing their sound since 2008, bouncing through Atlantic Records and Sony’s distribution network before landing as fully independent artists with a catalog that keeps finding its audience. Their breakthrough single topped the Alternative Songs chart with over 66 million combined streams and views. Their latest release, Steady as It Gets, picks up the thread — melodic indie rock that fills a club and sounds twice as loud as it has any right to.
This date is the first stop on a five-city East Coast run. Next up is Mercury Lounge in New York City the following night, then Boston-area, Philadelphia, and DC through May 31. Rochester is opening night. If the band is shaking down something new for this run, you will hear it here before anyone else does.
Montage Music Hall is in downtown Rochester on Chestnut Street. The show is presented by After Dark and 94.1 The Zone. Doors at 7 pm, show at 8 pm. Club format means the stage is close — get there by 7 and you are in good shape.
Tickets are available via Etix. No support acts have been announced. Browse more Rochester and Finger Lakes concerts on Upstate Concerts.
